This is a “blog hopping round the internet tour” of authors reflecting on their characters. Just seven questions to ponder and answer.
Eva is the up and coming author of the just released The Butterfly Crest. She is a New Orleans attorney and a confirmed Japanohile. C. Robert Cales (a.k.a. ScaryBob) is a paranormal thriller writer with a truly unique voice.
Here are the blog tour questions (along with my extensively pondered and reflected upon answers):
1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
Teal is an American journalist whose career hasn’t taken off. Despite her extensive war correspondent training and even her willingness to move to London for a position that should have been everything she dreamed of, she hasn’t been allowed to report on anything beyond flower shows and exhibitions. She is fictional. But her problems are very real.
2) When and where is the story set?
Three years ago, Teal moved to England, home of tea, biscuits and BBC and other world class news reportage. An unexpected assignment takes her to an isolated and exotic island in the South Pacific.
3) What should we know about him/her?
She’s feisty, strong, curious, perisitent, open to new ideas and a star runner. She’s been running from a childhood tragedy for too long, however, and is now determined to finally focus on the future. A new career path and rebuilding her lacklustre relationship with Bear are two of her priorities.
4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
What if to be with the man of your dreams… you had to give up your life? When Teal Douglas, an ambitious investigative journalist, is sent to the South Pacific Islands, a hard-core political mission becomes a love story in the midst of a whole new kind of social and ocean-environmental politics. She teams up with Perry, a driven marine biologist and ex-boxer who won’t fight, to take on a white collar crime syndicate. The syndicate is hell-bent on profit, no matter what the local environmental cost – and Teal’s almost-but-not-quite fiancé, Edward, is one of them. What would you sacrifice to defend what you believe in?
5) What is the personal goal of the character?
Teal wants to make a difference in the world and to be recognised for that – expose wrongs, shine the spotlight of public scrutiny upon them and hopefully inspire change for the better. She’d also like to inspire a little change in Bear, the man who is supposed to be the love of her life. Or maybe there are other answers waiting for her…
6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
I have a short list of about 20 possible titles for this novel. Unfortunately, authors often don’t get the final say in the titles of their books anymore – publishers do. Will let you know when it’s finalised.
7) When can we expect the book to be published?
This story is planned for release in 2015. Sign up now to be the first to be notified!
Keep on Hopping! Thanks for reading. And be sure to check out the next round of posts in the Meet My Character Blog Tour from paranormal thriller writer C. Robert Cales (a.k.a. ScaryBob) at his blog on July 28th, 2014!
